La Ibicenca

Ibiza is known as a party island where bohemians rub shoulders with the rich and famous who come in off their yachts, but Ibiza is so much more. Her terracotta soil that drops off into cliffs that fall into sparkling turquoise Mediterranean seas, her pine forests where the cicadas sing, her sunsets and their people that give you goosebumps as the sun slips behind the sea as everyone applauds. There is something inexplicably magic about Ibiza, a vibe that I’ve never felt anywhere else.

I lived in Ibiza the Summer of 2009 and worked nights so I spent the days exploring the island. I was captivated from the moment the summer breeze brushed my face. The island had such a familiar feeling, like I had belonged there once upon a time. It was in the old town that I discovered just how rich in history Ibiza is. Ibiza or in the local Catalan dialect Eivissa was settled by the Phoenicians in 654BC but it passed through the hands of the Carthaginians, Romans, Moors, a Norwegian King until finally it was handed over to Catholics. All these different settlers made it a melting pot of cultures which it still is today, you can find bohemian beauties who visit and reside there from all over the world.

This collection is inspired by La Ibicenca, a woman from Ibiza who has such a distinct carefree, bohemian style. She is unapologetically herself and always dancing like no one is watching.

For this collection I had pieces made to order from an Italian and a Menorcan workshop (a smaller island near Ibiza) and then some of the plating is done in Cordoba. Yes, I like to keep things as European as possible. Once again I collaborated with the Galician mother-daughter-duo who made me crocheted headbands, bags and even a top! They make all my crochet design-dreams come to life. I used a lot of freshwater pearls, turquoise and moonstone and all of the findings are varnished 18k gold or sterling silver plated making them treasures to be adored and adorned for years to come. I can only hope that you one day will be dancing with them on, upon the Ibicencan terracotta soil from where they were inspired.

With love from Spain,
